A frequent response: “I like that verse. It’s just never been clear to me what it means. What do you think it means?” What it means to me - briefly - is, “quit worrying.” And, no, I don’t think Jesus is recommending idleness. I think we are meant to work, and not only to be responsible and creative, but also dependent, trusting and reliant. Perhaps the issue lies in our priorities. Later, in the same chapter of Matthew, Jesus speaks of the Father’s great generosity, “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you.”
